Butler Greenwood Plantation
Butler Greenwood Plantation

Butler Greenwood was established in the 1790's, and members of the original family continue to live in and love the place today.  The antebellum main house is filled with priceless antiques, including the area's finest original Victorian formal parlor, and is surrounded by 19th-century gardens and hundreds of moss-draped live oak trees.  A tour of the main house, conducted by members of the original family, tours of the antebellum main house are available, but guests stay in their own individual cottages, charming structures scattered about on peaceful grounds, some around the duck pond and other at the edge of steep wooded ravines.

Butler Greenwood's Tree House Cottage

The Old Kitchen B&B was built in 1796 as the plantation kitchen, showing early Spanish architectural influence, and includes the original 115-foot-deep hand-dug brick-lined well.  The Cook's Cottage B&B is a 19th-century structure where the plantation cook lived, and has a front porch with porch swing, back deck overlooking pond, working fireplace.  The Gazebo B&B is six-sided, with three of the sides filled with 9-foot-tall antique stained glass church windows, and has a deck overlooking pond.  The Pond House has two full bedrooms, two baths, porch overlooking pond with big back deck.  The Dovecote B&B is a three-story, slope-sided shingled structure with a big deck overlooking ravine, two full bedrooms, two baths, working fireplace.  The Treehouse B&B has a back wall of glass and three-level deck down into steep ravine to rear, working fireplace, king-size four-poster bed.

All cottages have Jacuzzis, full private baths, cable TV, heat and air and ceiling fans, full or partial kitchens.  Rates for two are $135 and include continental breakfast in cottage and tour of main plantation house.  Two-bedroom cottages are $235 for four.  Swimming pool in season.  Guided bird walks are available by reservation.
